Mission Statement
To express the love of God through Christ to the poor and disadvantaged,
by providing a safe home where hope and healing are extended
to those who are broken spiritually, emotionally, or physically.
The Friendship House is a temporary home in South Portland for men recovering from substance abuse. Parish of the Holy Eucharist is one of many Greater Portland Area churches supporting the Friendship House. Volunteers from our parish collects meals, side dishes, pantry items, and toiletries the fourth week of the month from Monday-Wednesday at the Holy Martyrs kitchen. We welcome hot or cold entrees that are either homemade or purchased, vegetables and produce, breads, milk, and any other food items (including frozen) or toiletries. The Friendship House also welcomes and appreciates financial donations.
Our volunteers drive the meal and other donations over to the men every fourth Wednesday of the month. We consistently hear reports of gratitude from the men.
Donations can be dropped off to the Holy Martyrs kitchen during business hours (9 AM - 4 PM) on Monday or Tuesday and until 1 PM on Wednesday the fourth week of the month. If your donation requires refrigeration, you are welcome to use the refrigerator at Holy Martyrs. Please label all donations with Friendship to make sure your donations are sent to the right place.
If you can help, please see the contact information to the right! For more information about the Friendship House, visit their website linked on this page.
