Given feedback of past participants, there have been some changes, so here is the new agenda for the 2023-2024 FIRE meetings.

Agenda
8:30-9:00 Breakfast Lesson
Whole family learning in the form of presentation and large group discussion. We will discuss key curriculum themes and study a related work of sacred art. A simple breakfast will be provided (think fruit, eggs, yogurt, bagels for example) Getting everyone out the door is hard enough, we hope knowing coffee and food are waiting will help! Participants can munch while we begin our lessons.
9:00-10:15 Class
Participants break out into classrooms based on age. There is a class for everyone.- Age 0-3: "Little Lambs" (Playtime with music and stories)
- PreK-K: "Faithful Sheep" (Modeled after Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, montessori-style learning)
- 1st Grade: "Spark" (Sacrament Introduction with A Family of Faith)
- 2nd-5th Grade: A Family of Faith curriculum activities
- 6th-12th Grade: A Family of Faith topic discussions
- Parents: Adult catechesis and discussion on parenting topics.
10:30 Mass
11:30-12:30 Potluck Lunch and Fellowship
Sign up for the potluck here. Fellowship is so important to Catholic families. Sharing a meal together is a great way to build community and friendships. During this time we will also have the Savio store open. Children can use memorized prayers as currency to earn religious goods. -

What curriculum are we using?

What about Sacramental Prep?
The diocese recommends two years of sacramental prep. If you children are on track, our parish provides this as:- SPARK: Sacrament Introduction (grade 1).
- Attendance at FIRE will fulfill the requirements of SPARK
- FLAME: Sacramental Preperation (grade 2)
- Attendance at an additional class is required. This will be a traditional 60-min weekly lesson throughout the school year. More information here: www.pothe.org/flame-1
- If you have other sacrament needs, there is a space to indicate this during registration.
What about younger kids and babies?
We will provide childcare and age appropriate activities during our community meetings. These volunteers will have extra training to provide a safe and engaging space for our youngest parishioners.
What about Middle and high Schoolers?
This program is designed for families of all ages. Your older children will have the opportunity to discuss the material at their level during small group time. As it stands, we don't believe it is substantial enough for sixth to twelfth graders. So we have an additional program, the Oratory: www.pothe.org/oratoryDo you need volunteers?
Yes!- ADMINISTRATION: This volunteer would help with coordinating materials and attendance at community meetings.
- HOSPITALITY: These volunteers would help with breakfast and the meal after Mass. Tasks include set up, clean up, helping coordinate potluck food donations.
- SMALL GROUP LEADER: We will need small group leaders for the children. This would be a great ministry for a teen or young adult. Or a more traditional catechist could serve this position.
